Discover Oman’s treasures with BinMajid experts.

Overview

Jabal Akhdar – Jabal Shams – Wahiba Sands – Muscat

Oman is one of the best trekking destinations in the Middle East, and our private Walking Holiday in Oman offers a range of superb day-walks. This suggested itinerary is just a starting point and can be tailored to your expertise and walking preferences. You will be accompanied by expert trekking guides and have your own private driver/guide throughout your journey. We recommend booking a flight that arrives in Muscat early in the morning, allowing you to head straight into the mountains. Start in the Jebel Akhdar region, known for its leisurely walking trails. Begin with the delightful Four Village Walk, a two-hour trek through abandoned villages, picturesque orchards, jagged peaks, dramatic gorges, and lush green terraced fields.

Next, head to the Jabal Shams region, a paradise for trekkers. En route, stop in Nizwa for a cultural interlude to see the fort, souq, and possibly the Friday livestock market if your dates coincide. The following day, set off for Wadi Ghul and embark on the Balcony Walk, which overlooks the stunning An Nakhur Gorge. This ascent takes about 3.5-4 hours, with a picnic lunch in Al Khitaym. In the afternoon, follow the Canyon to the abandoned village of As Sab, a round trip of about three hours, before returning to your hotel at night.

The next day features the longest trek, the Goat Herder’s Trail from Sharaf al Alamayn to Misfat Al Abriyeen, a downhill walk of about six hours. For a more challenging experience, the trek can be done in reverse, taking up to 7-8 hours. Then, head south, stopping at Wadi Bani Khalid for a series of short day treks around the wadi to more remote pools. Arrive in Wahiba Sands for a night in a tented camp.

Finally, return to Muscat for two nights of rest and relaxation before heading home, giving you a chance to rest your weary legs before your departure.
