Throughout your journey, a personal driver/guide will accompany you, providing expert insights and ensuring you have the most unique and immersive experiences.
Begin with three nights in Muscat, where you can balance activity and relaxation. We recommend a half-day city tour, followed by a morning exploring the Daymaniyat Islands, leaving you with two leisurely afternoons. Travel through The Batinah Plain, stopping at Nakhl and Rustaq forts before taking the off-road Wadi Bani Awf to the Hajar Mountains. Ascend to the Jabal Akhdar region, known for its superb hotels and breathtaking views, and embark on the Four Village Walk the next day. Descend to the plains, visiting the picturesque Birkat Al Mouz before exploring Nizwa. Discover its impressive fort and vibrant souq, especially lively on Fridays with the livestock market. Continue to the stunning forts of Jabrin and Bahla en route to the Jabal Shams region, where you’ll stay at The View.
Lace up your walking boots for a day of scenic exploration. Head to Wadi Ghul for the Balcony Trek, a three-hour hike along the rim of Oman’s Grand Canyon, or An Nakhur Gorge, offering breathtaking views into the Wadi en Nakhr. For more adventurous trekkers, continue to the abandoned village of As Sad along the canyon rim. Alternatively, return to The View via the historic villages of Al Hamra and Misfat Al Abriyyin.
ITINIRARY
- Day 01: Arrive into Muscat
Al Bustan Palace, A Ritz-Carlton Hotel
Arrive in Muscat and enjoy a private transfer to your hotel. Spend the remainder of the day at your leisure.
- Day 02: Muscat Tour
Experience the captivating fusion of ancient and contemporary in Muscat. Begin by exploring the majestic Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. Navigate through the narrow, bustling alleys of Muttrah’s souk, where the air is rich with exotic scents of perfumes and the aroma of freshly ground coffee and spices. Immerse yourself in Omani heritage at the Bair Al Zubair Museum. Conclude your day with a walking tour of the old city. In the evening, savor a delightful dinner at the private residence of an Omani family.
- Day 03: Batinah Coast
Begin your day along the vibrant Batinah coast. Your first destination is the bustling fishing village of Barka, where local fishermen bring in their fresh catches at dawn, offering them for sale at the lively fish market. Just a short distance south lies Nakhl, home to a 350-year-old fort nestled in a gorge amidst majestic mountains. This historical site underwent sympathetic restoration in 1990, employing traditional materials and period furnishings. Notably, the intricately carved master gate is believed to date back to the 1830s, from the era of Sayyid Said Bin Sultan’s reign.
- Day 04: Muscat To Jabal Akhdar
Today, embark on a journey to the Omani Mountains. Opt for an adventurous off-road experience along the remote Wadi Bani Awf route, or choose a more conventional route. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon at your own pace.
- Day 05: Four Village Walk
Embark on your first walk, the leisurely 2-hour ‘Four Village Walk,’ offering a delightful introduction to Oman’s mountainous terrain and stone villages. Traverse through lush green terraced fields, admire breathtaking viewpoints, and conclude with a visit to a Rose Distillery. Next, venture to Wadi Bani Habib, a picturesque Omani village, for further exploration.
- Day 06: Jabal Shams
Embark on a drive to the Jabal Shams region, renowned for its challenging trekking routes and spectacular vistas. En route, make a stop in Nizwa, and if it happens to be Friday, don’t miss the vibrant livestock market. Additionally, delve into Oman’s rich cultural and historical heritage with visits to the impressive forts of Bahla and Jabrin.
- Day 07: Oman's Grand Canyon
Today, your driver/guide takes you to Wadi Ghul where you set on the stunning Balcony Trek (3-4 hours), a walk that follows the rim of Oman’s Grand Canyon, or An Nakhur Gorge. The views are stunning as you look down into the Wadi en Nakhr. On arrival into Al Khitaym, you will have a picnic lunch and then set off on the Abandoned Village Walk (3 hours), again following the rim of the canyon as you walk to the old village of As Sad.
- Day 08: Wahiba Sands
Today, bid farewell to the Jabal Shams region as you journey southward, with a stop at Wadi Bani Khalid. Here, you’ll embark on short trails around the wadi, venturing away from the main pools to explore the secluded corners of this stunning oasis, away from the usual tourist crowds. Afterwards, continue your journey to Wahiba Sands, where you’ll relish a late afternoon walk to a breathtaking sunset viewpoint.
- Day 09: Wahiba Sands
Spend the day exploring the desert with your driver/guide on a full-day 4×4 exploration of the desert.
- Day 10: Raz Al Jinz
Today, embark on a drive to Raz Al Jinz, renowned for its beaches where turtles come ashore to lay their eggs each evening.
- Day 11: Salalah
Head to the airport and catch a flight to Salalah as the Grand Tour Oman shifts its focus to the southern region of the country. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon upon arrival.
- Day 12: Salalah
Discover Salalah with your private guide. Begin your day by strolling along the scenic waterfront Corniche and delve into the history of the Dhofar region at the Museum of Frankincense. Then, immerse yourself in the lush greenery of a garden farm, where tropical fruits and vegetables thrive in Salalah’s unique climate. Pause outside the magnificent Shanfari Mosque before delving into the vibrant atmosphere of Al Husn Souq, renowned for its top-quality Dhofari frankincense. Next, visit the bustling Cattle Market before continuing your walk along the waterfront corniche toward the majestic Al Husn Palace, the summer retreat of Sultan Qaboos.
- Day 13: Frankincense Trail
Today, you will set out with private driver/guide to explore Job’s Tomb and Mughsail Beach, known as the Frankincense Trail. You first stop at the tomb of the Prophet Job (or ‘Nabi Ayoub’ in Arabic) and the landscape beyond Salalah that is dotted with frankincense trees. Continue to Mughsayl Beach and the blowholes, which shoot seawater up into the air through the rock during high tide.
- Day 14: Taqa
Set off with your private guide to the quaint fishing village of Taqa, known for its impressive castle. Continue to site of Khor Rori (or Sumhuram), a port from which frankincense was exported. Head further east to the town of Mirbat, the ancient capital of the Dhofar region dating back to the 9th century and which played an important role in Arabia’s frankincense trade. Continue to the tomb of Mohamed bin Ali, who died in 1135, and is housed in a twin-domed structure is a fine example of medieval architecture. You will return to Salalah via Ain Razat where manicured gardens are fed by natural underground springs.
- Day 15: Fly Home
Today, transter to the aiport for your flight home, concluding your Grand Adventure Tour Of Oman.
